My dear Brother,
As is probably known to you I reached this port
from the wide ocean on 29th August.
Last week I had already left the port again, but
was compelled to return here again, as outside of here (viz. out
-side the 3 mile limit) the place is thick with English and
Japanese men-of-war.
My supply of coal on arrival here was 180 tons now however it has been supplemented to the total amount of 7,556 tons, besides 750 tons of fresh water and that is the
load (cargo) which my ship is carrying.
17 German steamers are lying here and among them
D.Esslingen and Bochum.
I do not dare to give details of my occupation here up to date on paper as the letter might be opened.
According to what I have heard the D.Rostock is
lying in a Turkish port.
The Americans here are extraordinarily (friendly)
well disposed towards us.
Keep these lines secret.
Have you had any news at all from home?
Your brother greets you,
Peter K.
I am very fit,
